Reiki Restorative Yoga - Group Session

Restorative Reiki Yoga

We will be taking restorative yoga even deeper in this unique class.  This healing and deeply nourishing class will slowly incorporate gentle restorative yoga poses with Reiki (pronounced “Ray-Kee”) as ways to encourage deep relaxation and healing. The majority of the practice will be spent allowing the mind to unwind and the body to gently open and sink deeper into stillness through the guided process of releasing and letting go. While in restorative poses, participants will receive hands on Reiki, a form of energy therapy that enhances the natural healing system of the body and creates relaxation and and a sense of well-being. When one receives Reiki their brain goes into an alpha state similar to that experienced during meditation or right before falling asleep.  A special invitation is extended to all yoga practitioners yearning to deepen their practice, as well as anyone who may suffer from stress, anxiety, or chronic aches and pains.

Reiki is a calming, meditative, hands on, Japanese healing art that promotes balance throughout the body. Benefits may include:
- Reduction in stress
- Deep relaxation
- Restful sleep
- Pain relief
- Clarity on specific issues
- Boosts the immune system
- Relief during emotional distress

Common Reactions you can expect during a Reiki Session

Everyone will experience different things during a reiki session. But common reactions include:

  • Feeling temperature changes – a sensation of heat or cold at the practitioners hand placement

  • Recipient my see lots of colours in their mind’s eye

  • Involuntary movements or mild spasms

  • The recipient may become so relaxed they fall asleep

  • Itchiness

  • Emotional responses such as crying

  • Rumbling stomach

  • Memory flashes

  • A slight tingling or pins and needles at the practitioners hand placement

All of these reactions are normal. You may experience one, two, all or none of the above! Reiki works in very subtle ways and you shouldn’t worry about the lack of any sensations.

Reiki Attunement

“A Reiki attunement is the process by which a person receives the ability to give Reiki treatments. The attunement is administered by the Reiki Master during the Reiki class. During the attunement, the Reiki Master will touch the students head, shoulders, and hands and use one or more special breathing techniques. The attunement energies will flow through the Reiki Master and into the student. These special energies are guided by the Higher Power and make adjustments in the students energy pathways and connect the student to the source of Reiki. Because the energetic aspect of the attunement is guided by the Higher Power, it adjusts itself to be exactly right for each student. During the attunement, some students feel warmth in the hands, others may see colors or have visions of spiritual beings. However, it is not necessary to have an inner experience for the attunement to have worked. Most simply feel more relaxed.” - The International Center for Reiki Training

Reiki Levels

Level 1: The First Degree (Shoden)

Level 1 is a practitioner's initiation into reiki and is open to anyone. The focus during Level 1 is on opening the energy channels on a physical level, allowing the practitioner to connect to the universal life force energy, which flows from the cosmos through the crown of the head and down to the heart and hands. Many reiki masters emphasize self-reiki as the goal of the Level 1 designation, encouraging students to focus on practicing reiki on themselves, thereby working through their own obstacles. Typically the Level 1 course also includes an overview of the history of reiki.

Level 2: The Second Degree (Okuden)

Level 2 gives students the skills to practice reiki on others and open energy channels more deeply. Students also receive their symbols during this level. There are five symbols in reiki and each one corresponds to a specific energy (power, harmony, distance, mastery, and completion). Students are expected to use these symbols to bring the universal energy of reiki into their everyday lives in more practical ways. The symbols can also help people provide reiki over long distances or send healing energy wherever it may be needed in the world.

Level 3: The Third Degree (Shinpiden) & Reiki Master

In many courses, the Third Degree and Reiki Master are the same designation. However, some teachers separate Level 3 from Reiki Master. The Reiki Master Level is traditionally considered the teacher's level, and masters are able to walk away and attune new reiki practitioners. However, many receive the master attunement, along with the corresponding symbol, yet don't feel comfortable or practiced in properly attuning others—hence the distinction between Third Degree and Reiki Master.

Becoming attuned to Reiki allows you to access and direct this life-force energy for yourself and others. Each attunment also sparks a 21 day energetic cleansing period where deep healing and transformation is often experienced. Anyone who is interested has the ability to harness and utilize this energy for the good of all.
